Free Appreciation Society Magazine - Issue #171

Free Appreciation Society

Magazine Issue #171

October 2023 Issue

A week later than I expected, and the UK postal rates have gone up AGAIN today, but #171 has just gone into the mail for UK subscribers. Overseas mail went out last week. This is the fifth of five issues dealing with the reformation of the group in 1972, after they'd officially split in May 1971, and all done some solo stuff. Here is the final piece of this section, and also the final issue of the year for the FAS.

This magazine continues to run through all the world issues of the 'Free At Last' LP, with detailed information on the deviations and weirdness from one country to another. Japan, Canada, Taiwan (Korea), Brazil, America are all covered, as are the releases on cassette's, 8-track cartridges and CDs. Promotional variations and test pressings are included along with all the retail (shop) versions. There is also a brief section on the albums from Jim Capaldi that feature Paul Kossoff (and Simon Kirke) along with the January - June 1972 diary with everything Free were doing in a day-to-day format.

Finally this issue, in the centre, also includes the Island Records Free 1972 promotional booklet in its entirely. Sent out to record shops, the music press, and fans who wrote to Island in Basing Street asking for information, this little booklet doesn't come up for sale that often these days. It's a nice little piece that fits between the end of the UK tour and the release of 'Free At Last', and is well worth inclusion as many people will never have seen it before.

52 pages here, mostly in colour. Lots of new information, photographs and clippings, and many things never used, or documented, in the FAS before. I hope you enjoy it.

Mailed out to all FAS subscribers in the UK TODAY.
